No, James T. Fallon did not join Neon Indian for their performance on his Late Night with Jimmy Fallon show last night. But he did geek out on them. Yes, again.
This time, Fallon's mind was blown by the band's new PAL 198X synth, which he gave a nice plug before introducing Alan Palomo and his band of familiar faces to the stage to perform "Polish Girl." You may recall that the lead single off of the Era Extraña album that earned its release earlier this week was debuted here in Dallas at the Homegrown Festival back in May.
As for the performance: It was another scorcher from the North Texas-sprung outfit; Stereogum has already noted that Neon Indian played "triumphantly."
(Pitchfork checks in on the new album today, too, giving it a 7.9, calling it "compelling," but ultimately dooming the record for its more serious tone and the fact that "Palomo isn't always as assured in rendering the darker material." Interesting.)
But last night's Fallon performance kind of was triumphant, with the band carefully orchestrating and well-executing their aural, synth-helmed assault. They had some visual help, of course, courtesy of Intel and Vice's The Creators Project. But, hype for that one-time addition to the performance aside, it was once again Palomo and his ever-improved brooding that stole the show.
See for yourself after the jump.
