Local chef Kent Rathbun has a very practical reason for driving a neon yellow Porsche.
"Everyone knows it's you," he told The Dallas Morning News a couple of years ago. "That's a good thing and a bad thing, actually. Part of the reason I like it is because when it's in front of the restaurant, people know I'm here. And if you're going to have a yellow car, it might as well be a 911."
Conversely, when someone is dumb enough to steal a neon yellow Porsche, it tends not to stay stolen for long.
According to Dallas police, 24-year-old Keithan Brown was on a minor burglary spree in the Bluffview area around 11:30 Thursday morning. First, he allegedly entered a Desoto woman's unlocked Chevrolet parked in the driveway of a home on Rock Cliff Place, taking a purse and wallet. Then, he rounded the corner, crossed Inwood Road, saw himself into Rathbun's unlocked home, and grabbed the wallet and car keys from atop the kitchen counter.
Officers were already en route to investigate the initial car burglary by the time Brown drove away. Shortly after they arrived, they broadcast an alert for their fellow officers to be on the lookout for a yellow Porsche.
Shortly thereafter, a plainclothes officer spotted the car pull into the parking lot of Knights Inn at Empire Central Drive and Stemmons Freeway.
Brown was taken to the Dallas County jail, where he's being held on a $26,500 bond for burglary of a habitation and burglary of a motor vehicle. He has not, so far, been charged with car theft.
