Just drove by Bob's Steak & Chop House on the way to work, and, yeah, the venerable joint looks a little charred--at least on the inside. There are two enormous fire-and-water-damage recovery trucks outside, where a whole bunch of the restaurant's insulating insides are also piled up. According to one police officer near the scene, Dallas Fire Rescue got the call around 4 yesterday afternoon, and it was initially reported as a one-alarm fire. No word on when the place will re-open (update: a week, more or less), but it does beg the question: Where will Mike Modano eat for the next few days?
After the jump, our Friend of Unfair Park who initially tipped us off to the blaze--about which there's still been no word in Dallas' Only Daily--give us a few more details about what he saw yesterday. --Robert Wilonsky
I drove by the smoldering Bob's at about 7:15 PM. Police had blocked off the intersection at Wycliff and Bowser. Two fire trucks were still parked on Lemmon outside the building. Firefighters were on the roof and entering and exiting the building. Shovels were propped up against the engines, and a somewhat large pile of debris was outside the front door. The front doors themselves appear to have been removed. A small crowd of gawkers and witnesses was still gathered in the vacant lot across Wycliff.
