Two weeks ago, Bravo announced that among its new slate of shows is one titled Most Eligible: Dallas, which promises a peek at the dating lives of Dallas's beautiful people ... or something. You let me know how that works out. Now comes this, from the Style Network: Big Rich Texas, which, per Deadline's Nellie Andreeva, "explores the ultra-exclusive world at the top of the Dallas social scene." Oy vey.
Turns out, this is the very same "Untitled Reality Series" about which we wrote last month. Back then, Dallas Film Commission head Janis Burklund didn't know too much about the series -- except, maybe, that it was from the same folks who brought us Dallas Divas & Daughters. Which Big Rich Texas is. From Broadcasting & Cable's item this morning:
[Big Rich Texas is] a 10-episode docu-series about five wealthy mothers and their daughters at an elite country club in Dallas. "In addition to the one-of-a-kind personalities and 24/7 drama, what separates this series from the bunch is the unique focus on the mother-daughter relationships that fuel their lives," said Salaam Coleman Smith, president, The Style Network.Burklund tells Unfair Park this morning that reality shows don't have the economic impact that, say, a Good Guys or a Good Christian Bitches do. That's because "they don't hire a lot of local crews, and they're not forthcoming about how much they're spending. ... They're around, but they don't really land." Which is why, she says, she's spending most of her time dealing with ABC and TNT, which begins shooting Dallas here on April 27.
"I'm more focused on keeping those two series here if they get picked up," she tells Unfair Park. "Much more focused on that. And we're still talking to one of the other studios about another show, because as pilots get picked up, it doesn't mean they'll shoot where they started. But I think we have a good shot with Dallas and GCB."
