The Hartford Courant says Dallas will be the home next week to some pretty big sports news -- if by sports, I mean sports sponsorship news. Looks like Dale Earnhardt Jr. will be in town Wednesday, at the Dallas Convention Center to announce who his main sponsor will be when he races for Hendrick Motorsports next year. (Hendrick officials will also announce his car's number, which I intend to shave into my chest immediately following the announcement.)

Courant writer Shawn Courchesne wants to know why the event's taking place in Dallas: "This whole Dallas thing is definitely throwing me for a loop here." When reached by Unfair Park this morning, the Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau VP of media relations didn't even know a shindig was scheduled to take place on Wednesday. A couple of folks have speculated that there's a PepsiCo convention in Dallas next week; not so much, says DCVB's Phyllis Hammond. But a Frito-Lay sponsorship deal isn't out of the question, thank you, dear little baby Jesus, who's sittin' in his crib watchin the Baby Einstein videos, learnin' 'bout shapes and colors. --Robert Wilonsky

Update: Looks like PepsiCo it is. But after the jump, a good Friend of Unfair Park puts it so much better.
