Local law enforcement raided two cockfights Sunday, netting 384 chickens. In Ellis County, sheriff's deputies confiscated 284 fowl and arrested 30 people. Another bust the same day conducted jointly by the Lancaster Police Department and the Dallas County District Attorney's Office netted 100 more birds and 37 more arrests.
The chickens were moved to an undisclosed location Monday morning, according to the SPCA of Texas. A custody hearing for the birds seized in Dallas County is scheduled for Thursday. The hearing for the Ellis County fowl has yet to be scheduled.
Cockfighting is a felony in Texas, punishable by up to two years in prison. Attending a cockfight is a Class C misdemeanor.
