FOX & Friends, starring Channel 5'er-turned-Daily Show punching bag Gretchen Carlson, ran a piece this morning on Dallas ISD's up-to-$10,000 buyout incentive offered to teachers through March 8. As soon as I saw the name of the teacher interviewed (Beverly Stergeos) I hit The Google! to see where she works; Trimble Tech, turns out. Which is in Fort Worth ISD, for whom Stergeos has worked since '77 and which is offering its teachers a mere $1,000 to leave early. Stergeos sets the hosts straight at around the 1:40 mark. I give this video an A-plus.
On a related note, several Friends of Unfair Park and other concerned parents wonder what will happen if some campuses lose more teachers than expected (per the Potential Reductions by Campus chart handed out two weeks ago) following the buyouts for which teachers lined up this weekend. I asked DISD spokesman Jon Dahlander, who writes:
Much of it depends upon the flexibility that may or may not be allowed by the state. For instance, class-sizes for elementary schools are mandated to be 22-1. That may change depending upon how legislation advances. If elementary class-sizes go up to 25-1, that will dictate the number of replacement teachers per grade at each campus.Also, I see that trustees have called a special board meeting for tomorrow at 5 p.m. at 3700 Ross. The only item on the agenda: "Discussion of 2011-12 Budget Development Process."
