That did not take long: Amanda Newman sends word this afternoon that Irving's own David Garza -- who, in December, will begin a month-long residency at Los Angeles' famed hipster hang Largo -- is the first artist to confirm that he will play the John "Beard" Brewer benefit show set for October 28 at Club Dada. Newman says the show will begin at 1 p.m., with doors opening at noon, and run "well into the evening." Better still, it'll be an all-ages shindig -- "families are welcome," says Newman. In coming days, she'll send along the names of artists filling out the roster; keep checking back for updates. (I am suddenly very nostalgic for Twang Twang Shock-a-Boom. Always did like me some "Nicotine Queen" whilst at UT.)

In other news, Beard did indeed have his breathing tube removed today, but docs have yet to determine what caused his seizure. --Robert Wilonsky
