KERA Gets a Jump on the New Year with New Programs Replacing Axed Ones

KERA-FM (90.1) didn't take long finding shows to replace Day to Day and News & Notes, both victims of National Public Radio's budget cuts earlier this month. Both will make their debut on Thursday. Oh, you want their names? Tell Me More and The Story. And there's a third show making its bow on Friday at 1 p.m.: A Way With Words, which replaces Calling All Pets, due to stop barking in June '09. The full announcement concerning the new programs follows after the jump. Not gonna lie, though: Was really hoping for The Treatment on Fridays. --Robert Wilonsky

Tell Me More - 2:00 p.m. Weekdays - beginning Thursday, January 1, 2009
Tell Me More is a daily news-driven talk and interview program hosted by award-winning journalist Michel Martin. The program focuses on the way we live, intersect and collide in a culturally diverse world. Produced and distributed by NPR and the African American Public Radio Consortium. Tell Me More replaces Day to Day.
The Story - 9:00 p.m. Weeknights - beginning Thursday, January 1, 2009
A new program hosted by Dick Gordon, The Story offers first-person accounts and experiences on news that causes us to stop, think and sometimes inspire change in our lives. Ordinary and extraordinary people provide perspective. Produced and distributed by APM and North Carolina Public Radio. The Story replaces News and Notes.
A Way with Words- 1:00 p.m. Fridays - beginning Friday, January 2, 2009
A Way with Words is a lively and informative discussion and Q&A program about language. Hosts Martha Barnette and Grant Barrett take calls about slang, grammar, old sayings, word origins, regional dialects, family expressions, and speaking and writing well. A Way with Words replaces Calling All Pets.
