You could head out to Arlington this weekend to watch the dreadful Rangers take on the equally horrible Houston Astros in a laughable battle for something called the Silver Boot. Ya know, cheer our “hero” Sammy Sosa, who smacked all except 587 of his 600 homers in uniforms other than Texas'. (If they’re really on the ball, the Rangers will trade for Astros second baseman Craig Biggio, who’s just eight hits shy of 3,000.) And you could worship at the temple of Rusty Greer, who today was inducted into the Texas Rangers Hall of Fame with a -- no giggling -- .305 lifetime batting average.
Or you could forgo the teams in last place in their respective divisions and watch some baseball played by famous faces.
The 6th Annual Reebok Heroes Celebrity Baseball Game takes place Saturday at Frisco’s Dr Pepper Ballpark. The weekend event actually kicks off Friday night with a charity concert at the House of Blues featuring Counting Crows.
There’s a celebrity Home Run Derby at 5 p.m. on Saturday, followed by the game between star athletes such as Mike Modano, Roy Williams and Jerry Stackhouse and star stars such as Dallas' Josh Henderson (a regular on ABC's Desperate Houswives), Bryan Greenberg (Uma Thurman's boytoy in Prime) and some guy named Antonio Todd. Managers will be Hall of Famers Rollie Fingers and Wade Boggs.
And if that somehow doesn’t get you juiced, a certain Star’s main squeeze will sing the National Anthem. Naked. OK, I made that last part up.
