A couple of JFK-related item this a.m...
First off, have you heard the one about Don McElroy, a funeral home worker who loaded President Kennedy's casket into a hearse at Parkland Hospital? He claims he has the original death certificate that was tossed after a few minor typos -- "600 Pennsylvania Ave.," no Social Security number -- rendered it invalid. He tried to offload the thing on eBay but had no luck; now he's trying the auction-house route and hoping to pocket somewhere between $80,000 and $120,000. The Sixth Floor Museum would like it if McElroy, still in the funeral biz in Tyler, can find no takers.
And it appears Tom Hanks and his Apollo 13 co-star Bill Paxton are partnering to produce an HBO miniseries based on Vincent Bugliosi's Reclaiming History: The Assassination of President John F. Kennedy, which brands conspiracy theorists as "kooky as a three-dollar bill." Reports Variety, it'll be a 10-part series that says, yup, Lee Harvey Oswald was the sole shooter, and it will depict his "journey to becoming an assassin and his subsequent murder on live TV by Jack Ruby." No surprise Paxton's involved: Friends of Unfair Park no doubt recall li'l Bill actually saw JFK in Fort Worth on November 22, 1963. --Robert Wilonsky
