Consider this your biannual Nick Fazekas update. Mere moments ago, the Mavericks’ second-round draft pick was named an All-Star -- a D-League All-Star, sure, but still. The 6-11 Fazekas, drafted 34th overall by Dallas last summer, barely pissed a drop with the Mavs (two points in five minutes) but has torn it up in the minors, averaging 19 points and 10 rebounds with the fabled Tulsa 66ers. In related news, toldja he’d suck.
Second-round picks are always guesswork, but Glen “Big Baby” Davis (taken 35th, immediately after Fazekas) averages 4.6 points and 12 minutes per game for the East-leading Boston Celtics, D.J. Strawberry (59th) has played in 14 games for the West-leading Phoenix Suns, and 7-footer Aaron Gray (49th) scored 14 points for the Chicago Bulls in last night’s win over the Seattle. Come to think of it, Dallas’ 2006 pick of Maurice Ager doesn’t look all that good either. But somehow, he does have his own blog. Who doesn't. --Richie Whitt
