Whether it's Roy Williams' pads or his friends' sagging pants, Dallas Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant makes some
And whether it was his underwear exposed or whether he was banned from NorthPark mall over the weekend or whether he launched obscenities at the police and parked in a fire lane during a disturbance, Dez seems intent on keeping it real.
After the story broke yesterday afternoon about him being issued a criminal trespass violation and having a history of commotion at the mall, Dez tweeted last night at 8:54:
Headed to North Park tomorrow to get these Lebrons....I am not banned from North park lol
Kids Tweet the damnedest things. Of course earlier in the day he also Tweeted "how has everyone day been?" so with Bryant, we've got to understand what we're working with.
I like Dez as a person and love him as a player. But he's young. Immature. And, yep, prone to finding himself at the wrong place at the wrong time and often using the phrase "it was a misunderstanding." On a scale of 1-10 the incident is like a 2. He wasn't arrested. Didn't commit a crime. Just was basically being a punk at a mall and apparently looking for - and finding - trouble at a place that's not exactly welcomed him (or vice versa) in the past.
The police report filed about the incident says that Bryant and three friends were kicked out of NorthPark. When confronted by off-duty police to pull up his pants, Bryant repsonded with profanity and, when told to leave the premises, parked his car in a fire lane.
"What the fuck, you stopped me like I stole something," Bryant was quoted as saying, according to the police report.
But Bryant said last night that his pants weren't sagging and that - a-ha! - it was a misunderstanding.
"It really wasn't me in the wrong," Bryant said. "It's not even an issue."
Channel 8 says Bryant has a history of problems with the mall including separate incidents where he cut in line at the Apple store, received a ticket for parking in a fire lane and was involved in another disturbance involving a woman at P.F. Chang's restaurant. The TV station says that Bryant has been banned for three months, though his advisor, David Wells, refutes that claim.
One thing's for sure, this isn't the last off-field trouble we'll read about involving Dez Bryant. Let's just hope it doesn't get any more serious than an out-route at a mall.
And for those of you who are going to somehow blame the media for this, remind me again how an immature Cowboy with a checkered past showing up on a police report isn't news?
