No doubt City Hall will send out a release sooner or later, or post it to the City Secretary's open-meetings page, but we like to plan ahead. So, in case you missed the notice -- buried in tiny type at the bottom of Page 4B in the morning paper, right next to the El Centro ad -- there's a public meeting January 27 at Hitt Auditorium at Methodist Hospital, where the topic's the "Union Station to North Oak Cliff Streetcar Project." Start time's 6:30 p.m. Here's the text of the notice:
The City of Dallas, North Central Texas Council of Governments, Dallas Area Rapid Transit and the Federal Transit Administration are collaborating on the proposed streetcar project. The project consists of an approximate one and half-mile single track streetcar alignment providing streetcar service from downtown Dallas into North Oak Cliff. The proposed alignment begins at Union Station and proceeds south along Houston Street, crossing the Trinity River. From the Houston Street Viaduct the alignment extends along Zang Boulevard, terminating near Methodist Dallas Medical Center (Colorado Boulevard and Beckley Avenue or Zang Boulevard and Beckley Avenue intersection).
Verbal and written comments from the public regarding the proposed project may be presented at the public meeting. Written comments should be postmarked by Friday, February 11, 2001, and mailed to: K Strategies Group, 3500 Oak Lawn Avenue, Suite 230, Dallas, Texas 75219.
