Early last month, we broke the news that city officials were going to begin courting corporations who might be interested in buying the naming rights to the Cotton Bowl. Yesterday, the city council approved the idea, and, as expected, it's looking for a 10-year commitment and between $5 and $10 million. Alas, what to fill the Cotton Bowl with, aside from those contests already committed to Fair Park for at least a few more years?
In this week's paper version of Unfair Park, Richie asks the same question and, as noted earlier, comes away with Oklahoma State-Texas Tech annually, maybe. In September, Mark Jarrell, senior manager of Fair Park, hinted to Unfair Park that "spring football leagues and ... some international soccer federations" might also be interested in picking Cotton. But, spring football leagues? As in ... what, exactly? To which Richie, over on Sportatorium, just provided one possible answer that leaves us with a whole lot of questions. --Robert Wilonsky
