A law-practicing Friend of Unfair Park who loves good music and hates expensive bridges shoots us this missive in response to this morning's post about Dallas' musical legacy and the lack of a museum to honor it:

"For a view of how to do [a museum right], see the greatest museum of them all. You could spend hours at the Memphis Rock N Soul Museum and the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, learning about the Memphis sound. There's nothing like them in the state of Texas. I wonder if Don Henley or Steve Miller or Jimmie Vaughan might have a word to say about this.

I think I'd rather go to a music museum than stare at a couple fancified bridges over Water Moccasin Creek. I bet T-Bone Walker woulda penned one hell of a song about the 'Water Moccasin Signature Bridge Blues.' Maybe something like this?

I got the Calatrava Bridge blues From my head to my shoes Got no money for schools 'Cause the city's run by some fools."

Incidentally, that Memphis Rock N Soul Museum was done in conjunction with the Smithsonian Institution, which might be a way to defray some of the costs should a local politico show any interest at all. Anyone? --Robert Wilonsky
