Sorry to copy our buddies at We Shot J.R., but tonight's Pre-SXSW Party at the Darkside Lounge (in Deep Ellum, so there) is pretty much the only show in town on Hump Day. It's a good opportunity to see what Dallas is sending to Austin for the mid-March music festival...with one exception.

I saw openers Crushed Stars play with Pleasant Grove on Saturday night, having been tricked into thinking they'd be a good show based on their MySpace songs, and I was consequently underwhelmed. Right now, they're Pleasant Grove Lite, but if their onstage confidence grows in the next few months, they may turn out to be a fine trio. The rest of tonight's bill is more worthwhile: Pikahsso is a true entertainer, a man whose wild cross section of funk, soul, hip-hop and outer-space insanity makes him unlike any other rapper in Texas, let alone Dallas. His utter opposite, the garage rock champions of the Strange Boys, play right after him, which means you rock fans will finally see some of the local hip-hop I've been raving about.

Show starts at 10 p.m. Tix are $7 for 21+, $10 for minors. --Sam Machkovech
