It's no secret that Irving-based ExxonMobil pays scientists to say that humans aren't causing global warming. Last week, the Guardian (a U.K. paper) reported that the British Royal Society, Britain's premier scientific academy, has "found that ExxonMobil last year distributed $2.9m to 39 groups that the society says misrepresent the science of climate change." The Royal Society also wrote a letter to Exxon-Mobile, demanding that they stop funding these groups, something they say the oil company has already agreed to do:

"In the letter, Bob Ward of the Royal Society writes: 'At our meeting in July ... you indicated that ExxonMobil would not be providing any further funding to these organisations. I would be grateful if you could let me know when ExxonMobil plans to carry out this pledge.'"

In case you're still not convinced that global warming is real, or that the scientists who say it's not have been compromised by the deep pockets of ExxonMobil, consider this piece from Mother Jones' May/June 2005 issue. --Jesse Hyde
