Bad news, Longhorn fans: "Texas senior safety Tyrell Gatewood remained in jail Thursday after his arrest on drug charges, the fifth arrest of a Longhorns player since June." Also popped in the arrest was freshman defensive back Ben Wells, who was riding with Gatewood and given a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia. Apparently, cops stopped the car for failing to use the turn signal, then smelled weed -- only to discover "pot, Xanax and a baby bottle full of codeine cough syrup," whoops.
Local tie here: The AP reports that Tyler native Gatewood is also being held on an arrest warrant from Dallas County, where he was charged with reckless driving in March. Reports the wire service, "bond for that charge was set at $500." --Robert Wilonsky
