According to the city of Dallas's Office of Emergency Management's Web site, "The City's outdoor weather warning system has 94 sirens that alert people who are outdoors to seek shelter in the event of a tornado." Had to double-check this morning, following two rounds of siren songs last night: at 9:30, just as the storm was hitting Northwest Dallas, then again at 10:52, long after it had stopped drizzling. No doubt you heard 'em too -- as it turns out, "sirens sounded in Dallas as a precaution." Which isn't really their purpose, but, sure, what the hell.
