Just got back from taking the missus and the 4ish-year-old who lives in our house to a preview of the Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination exhibit, which opens Saturday at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. The kid dug it -- and why not, since it's essentially an impressive, sprawling props-and-costume display with some nifty hands-on stuff that winds its way toward the world's biggest Star Wars-only store, in which you can buy everything from replica lightsabers to tricked-out Halloween costumes to hard-to-find action figures.
The kiddo ran from one thing to the next -- "Look, it's a Chewbacca costume! ... It's a TIE fighter! ... Wow, the Millennium Falcon!" -- but couldn't bring himself to shake the hand of Anthony "C-3PO" Daniels, who was brought in to introduce the exhibit to visiting press and VIP patrons. "I'm too nervous," said the boy, burying his head in his mother's shoulder. He wound up instead with a Jango Fett blaster and mask. The thing opens Saturday and runs through September 3. Oh, joy. Expect extensive TV play tonight; every media outlet in town was there. Only, most of them didn't drive back from Fort Worth with a kid in the back seat humming "The Imperial March" as loud as he could whilst wearing a Jango Fett mask. --Robert Wilonsky
