Don't think that DISD is allowing its newly politically aware student contingency to get away with protesting immigration legislation again today. In fact, the district isn't even letting them get away with protesting yesterday. DISD spokeswoman Yvette Weiss tells me that anyone who left class to march on either day will get an unexcused absence. Harsh punishment for kids just trying to speak their minds? I don't think so. It's not a real protest unless you're sacrificing something to be there.
No word yet on how many kids are parading around today, though they appear younger. Weiss says DISD is going to meet with them later this afternoon to discuss their concerns. --Andrea Grimes
