If your interest was piqued a couple of weeks ago when Scott Reitz told us about his bottle of Balcones single malt whiskey, or perhaps even before that you read about it in The New York Times, well, you're in luck.

This Saturday, February 2, Chip Tate, master distiller at Balcones, will be at the Sigel's at 5757 Greenville Ave. from 1 to 3 p.m. offering samples of his award-winning hand-crafted liquors.
Tate founded Balcones Distillery in Waco in 2008 and a year later released the first Texas whiskey, Baby Blue. Six others have hit the market since, including the more recently highly-acclaimed Balcones "1" single malt in 2011.
Tate will be on hand to discuss many things, like baking, brewing, nuclear engineering, physics and philosophy - all things he's dabbled in since honing in on distilling.
