There's going to be a cornucopia of happiness at the Sigel's in Addison this Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. Not only will there be the usual United Nations gathering of comedians that make up the staff at Sigel's, but they're also throwing Dude, Sweet Chocolate's Katherine Clapner into the mix. For that, I may just bring my own chair and make myself comfy.
Clapner has partnered with Irish firecracker cheese monger Theresa Magee to pair chocolates with cheeses from the Brazos Valley Cheese company, including a roasted garlic montasio, horseradish & pecan cheddar, raw milk muenster, swiss and gouda.
Recently, Clapner has been working on a few new things at her little shop of highly-addictive-concoctions in Oak Cliff, so who knows what she might show up with on Saturday.
And Sigel's will be tasting four different Italian wines to go with the cheeses: Santero Moscato d'Asti '10; Terre Valse Trebbiano d'Abruzzo'10; Arancio Nero d'Avola '09; Castiglion del Bosco Brunello di Montalcino '04.
Also, for the 10th year in a row, Magee will open an aged wheel of Parmesan as she does every Saturday prior to Thanksgiving. This year it is a 2006 Vintage Parmigiano-Reggiano. Magee will also gladly help you with any other cheese questions, and Saturday is the time to stock up because all imported and domestic cheeses are 20 percent off.
We're still not done. Magee also makes from scratch Irish Soda Bread every Saturday morning. She also keeps her deli stacked with amazing grub like her duck pot pie in a white wine sauce, Irish sausage, bacon, flat potato bread and roasted duck (call ahead for availability).
Come early. Stay late. Explore wine, cheese, bread and chocolate with the always entertaining group at Sigel's. If you're a definite for Saturday, make a reservation on the Sigel's website so they have plenty of goodies ready.
