Stampede 66 is holding a summer-style picnic in honor of three of Texas’ top chefs: Tim Byres, Stephan Pyles and Tom Perini. The Dallas Design District is also hopping on the farmer’s market bandwag … er, tractor. This Saturday marks opening day for the market, which aims to provide shoppers with easy access to organic produce. As with any self-respecting event in Dallas, there will be food trucks, live music and women in maxi dresses desperately trying to figure out what a squash blossom is. Just bear with me on this one. There is a company called Eppa Sangria. This company makes wine for moms. But not just any wine for moms. See, Eppa Sangria touts their superior ingredients – organic grapes,”superfruit” juices and the like – as part of their marketing campaign. They also have a trailer which they haul around the country to promote their brand by giving out free wine and teaching women yoga moves. The trailer, as depicted on Eppa’s website, has clear sides in order for passersby to observe that you didn’t replace your yoga pants even after you found out they were see-through. Food events must cater (quite literally) to a large number of people. And so these events employ, wisely, elements that will appeal to as many people as possible. Beer festivals, for instance, are generally quite popular. Cheese events are as well. Put beer and cheese together and you’ll have a mob on your hands. This Saturday, another popular contender enters the food events arena in the form of Taco Libre!. Starting at $12 per ticket, you can get access to some of the best taquerias around, including El Come Taco, El Padrino, El Tizoncito, Good 2 Go, La Nueva Fresh & Hot and Revolver Taco Lounge. Unfortunately, you will have to pay for the tacos as well (they start at $2 a pop) but just think of the gas savings. In addition to easy-access, super delicious tacos there will also be lucha libre wrestling. Because if the masses love anything, it’s scarfing down chorizo tacos while two masked men use physics to hurt one another.

The second edition of Knife’s Sunday Cinema Series takes place this Sunday. Chef John Tesar has prepared dishes that will serve as fitting accompaniments to the screening of Big Night, a film by Campbell Scott and Stanley Tucci about two brothers struggling to save their Italian restaurant. Movie goers will also be treated to craft beer by Four Corners Brewing Co. as well as wine. Tickets are $35, with $10 of each ticket sold going to support the Dallas Film Society.
