Five Awesome Food Events, Aug. 25-28: The Libertine Turns 10, a Veggie Feast and Big Tex

It seems like just yesterday The Libertine was a speck in Greenville Avenue's eye. Now this most beloved pub is turning 10 and the bar is celebrating with four days of raffles, bands, food and drink specials. Thursday marks the last day of celebrations with guest bartenders Stephanie Roethlisberger, Vaughn Hancock and Jeff Fryman. Proceeds from raffles will benefit the Foundation45 suicide prevention initiative.

What it be: The Libertine 10 Year Anniversary Party 

When it do: 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22 through Thursday, Aug. 25

Treat the vegetarian (or simply the veggie lover) in your life to a five-course dinner at Cafe Modern. Sure, tickets are $110, but just think of how many times your beet-eating betrothed has subsisted off of pickles and white bread while you gorged on barbecue. Let's not even mention the Thanksgiving at your parents', where even the cornbread contained lard. Highlights from the menu include injera stuffed with spiced lentils, vegetable sosaties and a butternut bobotie. The dinner includes South African wine pairings.

What it be: Vegetarian Wine Dinner with South African Wines

You should have seen what Manet's paintings looked like when he was sober. Make like a great artist and get a little tipsy as you unleash your creativity on the canvas at the Texas Ale Project. Paint Party Express will visit the brewery and guide participants through the painting process, ensuring that you, yes you, come out with a masterpiece, and maybe a hangover. Outside food is encouraged and T.A.P.'s craft brews will be available for purchase. Tickets are $26 each.

Shannon Brewing will celebrate their second anniversary with good food, good beer and great people. Shannon will tap some seasonal beers for the occasion, which will also be marked by live music and eats from Hick's BBQ, Crown Tacos and Steel City Pops. A $20 ticket includes three pints and one sample of specialty beer.

Will Cookie Fries win judges' hearts? Will the most creative award be bestowed upon the injectable Great Balls of BBQ? Find out at this year's Big Tex Choice Awards. This annual event enables lovers of all things fried, stuffed and shoved onto sticks to preview this year's new fair foods. One attendee will even have the opportunity to join the judging panel responsible for naming most creative and best-tasting. Proceeds from the $100 tickets will benefit the SFT Youth Scholarship Fund.
