In Texas, summer is marked not by the passing of time but by the pouring of sangria. Because nothing takes the temperatures down a notch or two like a fruity, ice-cold glass of wine. Enjoy a glass — or two, or seven — at the Summer Sangria edition of Bishop Arts District's Wine Walk. The walk takes participants on a sangria-laced journey through Bishop's collection of quaint shops and restaurants, plying them all the way with refills of the fruity stuff. Those who buy advance tickets ($20) will kick things off at Tent #2 at Bishop and 7th Street, where wristbands and glasses await. Those who have not pre-purchased can do so at the same cross streets, but this time check in at Tent #1 for $25 tickets.

Birds are remarkable creatures, and not just because they are tasty when braised. Flock together for the sake of our brothers-in-wings at Chicken Scratch, where nonprofit organization Window to the Wild Inc. will be on hand to educate and to raise funds for birds who can't be released into the wild — cause, you know, humans mess things up. Get to know the birds and grab a bite (just not the fried chicken!) and a beverage while you're at it. This event is free to attend, and live music starts at 8 p.m.

Ain't no shame in LUCK's pairing game. First it was doughnuts and beer, now it's time for cookies and beer to take the plate. This pairing will feature four specialty cookies from the Great One Cookie Company and craft beers from local breweries. Notable pairings include dark chocolate potato chip with Wild Acre Brewing Company's Moonlight Shine and Franconia's Silver Star Bock with a sweet potato chipotle cookie. Three seatings will take place and tickets are $18 each.
