- Dos Jefes, the new Mexican-sushi-tequila bar-tapas-nightclub in Uptown, is launching brunch this weekend. Brunch service runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday. Here's a peek at the menu:
Falda Picadillo y Huevos – Smoked brisket, tomato, onion, avocado, jalapeño, Jack cheese, sunny-side up eggs
Pan Dulce – French toast, Captain Crunch, soaked strawberries, whipped cream
Huevos Benedicte – Crisp Serrano ham, peppers, mushrooms, paprika hollandaise, patatas chimichurri
Hamburguesa – Beef & suckling burger, Swiss cheese, red onion slaw, chimichurri, fries
- A new restaurant is opening this fall in AT&T Stadium, according to a press release. The 19,000-square foot eatery, The Stadium Club, will be located just inside the stadium's main entrance and will serve lunch and dinner with a sports bar feel.
- Downtown's Pho Colonial has closed and will become Sapa House, CultureMap reports. The new restaurant, slated to open in July, will specialize in Vietnamese food with a Japanese bent and will be open late.
- The Hare Krishna temple that houses Kalachandji's, the popular vegetarian restaurant, was robbed this week, and burglars locked a priest in his room before ransacking the temple, DMN reports. Temple officials estimate that around $8,000 in property was stolen.
- East Dallas — and Garland Road in particular — scored another win this week. CultureMap reports that Julie Doyle, singer and manager of Polyphonic Spree, and artist/musician Tony Barsotti are opening a bar called Here at 9028 Garland Road. Some big names have signed onto this retro/'70s-inspired project. Rainer Judd, daughter of artist Donald Judd, is creating a "21-by-4-foot image of Marfa" for the space, with cocktails designed by Omar Yeefoon and a "Southern refined" feel "with Micah Killough (Common Table, HG Sply Co.) running the kitchen," Teresa Gubbins writes. The bar will open later this summer.
- Malai Kitchen's brews did well this weekend at Best Little Brewfest in Texas. From a press release:
In the Seasonal Beer category, Malai was awarded the Gold Medal for the Thai-P-A (India pale ale brewed with ginger, galangal, turmeric, cilantro, toasted coriander, kaffir lime and lemongrass. American 2-row and crystal malt along with turmeric give the ThaiPA a nice orange appearance. Dry hopped with American hops to produce a balanced citrus aroma. 7 percent ABV. In the Belgian Beer category, Malai received the Silver Medal for the Golden Triangle Saison (Saison brewed with German Pilsner and wheat malt. Fermented with the house saison yeast blend which creates a highly attenuated (dry) beer. Dry hopped with Japanese Sorachi Ace hops that add a lemon aroma to balance with the esters produced from the yeast 7 percent ABV). View the entire list of categories and winners here.
- Jon Thompson, the executive chef/partner at Sugarbacon Proper Kitchen, is out, Escape Hatch reports. His departure, to work on a new project that Thompson's staying quiet about, comes just a month after the Sugarbacon team opened sandwich spot Butcher Board in the space next door to Sugarbacon in downtown McKinney.
