Over the weekend, while hipsters danced at Beauty Bar, drunks played Skeeball at Barcadia and coffee nerds slurped java and discussed acidity and flavor notes at Houndstooth Coffee, the Glass Boot Biergarten sat idle. The bar with a massive patio remained locked up Monday evening well into business hours, and is apparently closed.

Owners Blake and Di Ann Bogus could not be reached for comment, and a call to the bar went unanswered, but taps that had been stripped of their handles were visible through the front windows and the bar didn't open yesterday Monday, either.

Blake and Di Ann Bogus opened the biergarten after selling Knox Street Pub, a casual pizza and wings joint that sold buckets of beer to patrons watching football and hockey. The Glass Boot was to be an indoor/outdoor celebration of beer and German bar food, but it didn't catch on.

When I reviewed the da Boot, I noted it was a great place to have a beer -- they served suds in mugs the size of your head, and even in their namesake glass boots. But the food however was uneven, with hits and misses littering the loosely German-inspired menu.

Glass Boot Biergarten stayed open around five months, after a significant renovation that transformed a run-down corner store into a beer-lovers paradise. It's not likely the space will sit empty for long.
