The end of October brings another handful of openings and closings for Dallas area restaurants. First, the good news:
East Hampton Sandwich Co., 3888 Oak Lawn Ave., ehsandwich.com
Fancy-pants sandwich makers East Hampton Sandwich Co. have opened another location. Now the smell of lobster rolls and roast beef grilled cheese sandwiches will waft through Turtle Creek Village.
The Table, 3701 Justin Road, Flower Mound, dineatthetable.com
A few employees ditched Wolfgang Puck’s Five Sixty to embrace pierogies, pasta and other comfort plates. If you were looking for an excuse to drive to Flower Mound you just got one.
Resident Taqueria, 9661 Audelia Road, residenttaqueria.com
Poor you! If this is the first you’ve read about Resident Taqueria then you’ve missed your chance to see St. Vincent, aka Annie Clark, shilling tortillas. That’s OK, though. Rumors have it the rock star left some pretty amazing tacos in her wake.
Americano, 1530 Main St., thejouledallas.com
Italian food fans have a new place to rip into a buttery pizza and a bowl of pasta, with all the wine they could ever want flowing freely on tap. Americano completes the restaurant offerings of The Joule Downtown.
Whisk Crêpes Café, 1888 Sylvan Ave., 469-353-9718
Want some lunch? Don’t want a sandwich? Try Whisk Crêpes Café, which opened in early October in Sylvan Thirty. The tiny cafe serves everything from standard ham and cheese to a s’mores version with blowtorched marshmallows.
18th & Vine BBQ, 4100 Maple Ave., 18thandvinebbq.com
Tired of Texas’ smoked brisket? Yeah, we aren’t either. Still, there’s a big world of barbecue out there, and it’s not going to explore itself. 18th & Vine brings Kansas City barbecue to town in a posh dining room on Maple Avenue.
And now for some notable closings:
San Salvaje
After releasing confusing plans to remain open as a lunch-only and catering restaurant, Stephan Pyles announced that San Salvaje would close permanently, marking the biggest restaurant closure for the month. Pyles' relocation of his flagship restaurant to the Arts District has also been delayed.
Cafe Express
Construction is taking over the McKinney Avenue location of Cafe Express. A relocation is in the works, but they’re not hurried about it. Expect a replacement in 2017.
Nick and Sam’s Grill, Uptown
The Uptown location of this Nick and Sam’s offshoot (and source of the greasiest Cuban sandwich I’ve ever encountered) shall cater to Uptowners no more. The restaurant served its last brunch last Sunday.
Buttons, Addison location
High rents have captured another well-known restaurant. Buttons has offered music and food for the soul in Addison for the past five years but will be closing because owner Keith Buttons was unable to negotiate a lease. The Forth Worth location remains.
