- Plano has a new brewery and restaurant: Union Bear Brewing at The Boardwalk in Granite Park (5880 State Highway 121), owned by {33} Restaurant Group, which also owns Cadillac Pizza Pub in McKinney, Taverna Rossa Craft Pizza and Beer in Plano and Southlake, Heritage Pizza and Taproom in The Colony, and The Yard, opening in McKinney this summer. The brewery has four house-brewed beers on tap to start: a blonde ale, an amber, a white IPA and an oatmeal stout. The restaurant serves classic American fare, such as pulled-pork sliders, flatbreads, patty melts and a pork chop porterhouse. Union Bear celebrates its grand opening starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday with giveaways, specials and a visit from The Ticket Sports Radio’s The Hardline, which will broadcast live from 3-7 p.m.
- Brazilian steakhouse Fogo de Chao is opening a new location Monday at Legacy West, also in Plano. "Upon entering, guests will have a panoramic view of the dining room, an expansive Bar Fogo area including a covered outdoor patio, and a 16-foot bas-relief interpretation of Antônio Caringi’s famous statue, O Laçador, an embodiment of the gaucho culture of Southern Brazil," according to a press release. Fogo de Chao has relocated its headquarters, which includes a "state-of-the-art test kitchen and bar," to Legacy West, according to the release. "A variety of fire-roasted meats including favorites like ribeye, double-cut lamb chops, and house-specialty Picanha, the most prized Brazilian steak," anchor the menu, according to the release." Fogo Legacy West will be the first location to debut a Churrasco Bar, which offers open-kitchen seating at the grill. The new location, which will open for lunch, dinner and weekend brunch, is at 5908 Headquarters Dr.
- Lewisville has a new sweets shop opened by Elizabeth Rowe, who appeared on Food Network's Cake Wars. The London Baker is "best known for award-winning, edible works of art," according to the release, "as well as a pastry case filled with deep dish cookies, brownies, English crumpets and scones, and a seating area for English tea." The new location, which opened March 17, overlooks Lake Avalon. Rowe also has a London Baker location in Fort Worth. Via the release:
"The new location will offer the London Baker’s special occasion cakes for weddings, birthdays, baby showers and more in flavors such as classic vanilla, red velvet, wedding cake, cookies and cream, lemon and more. The Chocolate Stout Cake is described as a 'spectacular boozy salted caramel crunch cake' baked with a chocolate and vanilla stout beer, a smooth salted caramel butter cream filling and crushed pretzels decorated in a fudge chocolate frosting. One of her most popular is the Fresh Strawberry Cake baked with bits of fresh strawberry and a strawberry cream filling."
The new bakery is at 2540 King Arthur Blvd.
- In Tex-meh (oh, sorry, Tex-Mex) news, Houston based franchise Lupe Tortilla is opening its first DFW location at 4535 Belt Line Road in Addison early next year, CultureMap reports. "The Addison location is taking over a former Romano's Macaroni Grill, and will span about 8,000 square feet, including a patio," CultureMap reports. "The menu features more than 60 items, including their fajitas served with hand-pressed flour and corn tortillas that are made in-house to order."
- The recently renovated Adolphus Hotel is about to add something new: Otto's, a "warm European-style coffee shop realized in the Bauhaus style," CultureMap reports. "The shop will be a 'Viennese-style' coffee shop featuring beans from Oak Cliff Coffee Roasters used to make espresso and coffee drinks," CultureMap writes. "They'll also do pastries and Austrian treats made in-house." The shop is slated to open by the end of the month.
