Changes are coming at Oak Cliff's beloved Mesa. The restaurant opened just before my arrival and was the subject of my very first review. I loved the place, and the very same week Leslie Brenner did too. It went on to become one of the most notable openings of the year.
Since my visits a few things at Mesa have changed, and a few things have stayed the same. The restaurant started serving brunch in January, Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The menu features chilaquiles and heuvos and bacon a la mexicana, whatever that is. The classic dishes I gushed about in my review, however, are still happily on the dinner menu. I called to ask about what else is going on, but an employee told me I'd have to wait for a press release.
Screw that.
I started poking around their Facebook page and found a reference to an upcoming lunch menu. I hope they do lots more tacos.
Then I found this tweet: "Patio patio patio... Coming soon."
Now I'm getting excited. Blueprints are still being finalized, according to a publicist who was stingy with the details but did say they'll be moving some walls.
Mesa's gorgeous cocktails are still firmly in my mind. Tearing into that beautiful duck mole with a breeze at my back and tequila laced with hibiscus would make for a compelling evening.
