According to the blog, this is the first time scotch has been marketed in such a way. And while most of the article debates the merits of flavored scotch whisky within the context of classification rules set up by the Scotch Whisky Association, the real kicker comes at the end of the post.
The flavored spirit market has exploded, bleeding way outside cartoonish vodkas and into bourbons and other whiskey, but until now, scotch whisky had avoided the trend. If this marketing ploy works, it will put pressure on other brands to follow suit. It makes you wonder how far away we are from some potentially outlandish flavors.
While purists scoff, it's hard to ignore the possibilities, no matter how frightening they may be. Sticky toffee pudding scotch whisky, anyone?
