It seems like a new place for the area's dozens of food trucks to park and serve their delicious wares pops up somewhere across the Dallas-Fort Worth area at least once a month. A bar owner in Denton just announced yesterday that he's planning a new "unofficial" food truck park along Austin Street, and now an Uptown restaurant is in the works to take a stab at the idea.
Because food trucks still aren't allowed to set up shop (aka park) in public spaces due to Dallas city ordinances, the Uptown food truck park will be in the parking lot of Sisu, an "Uptown resort" located on Maple Avenue. Known as the "Uptown Truck Stop," the park will feature popular local food trucks, including Nammi, Ssahm and Ruthie's Rolling Cafe, paired with cocktails and other libations from the bar at Sisu.
According to SideDish, the park will be open for lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. It'll also have Happy Hour from 4-8 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, lunch on Saturdays and Sunday afternoon parties by the pool.
Similar parks in Lower Greenville and downtown are seeing a lot of success in their respective neighborhoods, but there are still some kinks to work out in these concepts. Both Truckyard and Klyde Warren Park have been criticized for their lack of food truck variety. Most of the trucks planned for Uptown Truck Stop are already regulars at both Klyde Warren and Truckyard, so it will be interesting to see if the new explosion of places for food trucks to park causes any scheduling chaos.
Uptown Truck Stop will, though, bring a unique offering that other food truck parks don't have -- a pool. When the oppressive Texas summer heat starts in just a few months, diners will be able to take a dip in Sisu's sparkling pool after a plate of Ssahm's spicy Korean tacos lights their mouths on fire.
Uptown Truck Stop is set to open on March 19, which means that it might be warm enough to enjoy a Nutty Pig from Easy Slider and a habanero-prickly pear margarita in Sisu's massive outdoor seating space. A girl can dream.
