We here at City of Ate love a good challenge, more so if it benefits a great cause that helps save children's lives. That's why the Observer has partnered with Jersey Mike's Subs (5521 Greenville Ave.) to host a competitive eating event with a purpose. Join us tomorrow at 7 p.m. at the Greenville location for the Jersey Mike's Sub Challenge to watch our best competitive eaters take on other challengers in a mammoth sandwich eating contest. Our contestants Patrick "Jalapeño Popper King" Michels and Jesse "Hophead" Hughey will try to consume three 15-inch Jersey Mike's Super Subs -- made with provolone, ham, prosciuttini, and cappacuolo -- in under 15 minutes. Don't think they can do it? Well, you've never witnessed real eating until you've seen Jesse attack a box of Girl Scout cookies or Patrick drink a quart of queso.

We'll also have bites and beverages for guests, in case you actually find yourself hungry while watching this throwdown. The contestants aren't donating their stomachs and time just because they love subs. The event is aimed at raising awareness for Wipe Out Kids' Cancer, a local nonprofit that funds pediatric cancer research and treatments. Jersey Mike's will donate a portion of sales all month to Wipe Out Kids' Cancer, and donations are welcomed tomorrow night. Stop by to watch the competition, but just keep your distance. There's probably going to be some airborne iceberg lettuce.
