It's likely the most anticipated restaurant opening since Remedy doused Greenville Avenue for the first time last year, and it's certainly the most hyped. Uchi has announced a June 1 opening date, giving Dallasites another reason to celebrate this Memorial Day Weekend. In just days, Dallas will be the newest home to what has become a nationally recognized sushi restaurant.

And certainly all this chatter is deserved. Chef Tyson Cole and his staff climbed the echelon of culinary awards, all the way to the summit of James Beard. His original restaurant is consistently praised, and while a Houston outpost raised the eyebrow of Chronicle food critic Alison Cooke, coverage is mostly positive.

This also marks the first time in a long time that a super-star chef dropped in on Dallas. Not since John Tesar descended from New York City to light a fire under the Mansion at Turtle Creek (and subsequently The Dallas Morning News); not since Wolfgang Puck revamped Reunion Tower, has such a big name given Dallas something new to chew on. Cole is sending Nilton “Junior” Borges to do his bidding.

If Cole delivers on his divine Uchi promise, it's likely going to be an exciting summer on Maple Avenue. Doors open at 5 p.m. and according to a spokesperson the phone has been ringing off the hook.
