Well, there's an elephant in the room in terms of culinary events this week and it's wearing a brown paper hat with four orange and red feathers sticking out the back. Still, there are a few other events to help you get through the long holiday weekend.

Before you eat your weight in dressing and pie on Thursday, start the day off with the Turkey Trot through downtown. Dig a hole and then fill it up. Last year there were more than 36,000 runners for the annual race, now in its 45th year. The run starts at 7 a.m. Registration is $35. Here are all the details.

Central 214 is hosting a Black Friday Brunch: three courses for $40 and $1 mimosas and bloody mary cocktails. The full menu is online, and includes Scotch eggs, slow-roasted Berkshire ham, crispy gnocchi, Ugly Pug chocolate cake with Chantilly cream, and apple cider-glazed sweet potato doughnuts with apple butter. If you need to get out of town this weekend -- a road trip to put a little space between you and your kitchen or whatever, head up to Franconia Brewing Co. in McKinney. They'll have their regular Saturday tour and will tap the last keg of Sarah's Darkside, in addition to the new Winter Wheat. Who's Sarah, you ask, and what's her dark side like? Well, here the Beer Betties explain.

One of the first craft brewers in Texas, Real Ale Brewing Co. out of Blanco, is having a beer dinner, November 28 at Ser Media Bar and Grill. Chef Anthony Bombaci is creating the five-course dinner, which begins at 6 p.m. and costs $60 per person. Limited seating. Call 214-761-7439 to reserve a spot.

Chef Kate Weiser from Chocolate Secrets will host a class at The People's Last Stand next Tuesday, November 27 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Chef Weiser will bring along some of her wonderful chocolates and offer tips on how to properly pair chocolate and wine, for perhaps your next holiday party or night of lonely indulgence. Tickets are $15 each. All proceeds for the event will go to Naomi's Village.
