As if getting through yet another Tuesday wasn't reason enough to have a drink, today is the Democratic and Republican party primary election--which means you'll have something to celebrate or lament this evening as the returns come in.
After polls close at 7 p.m. (find out where to vote here), you can head to one of the official watch parties. And if the number of watch parties in Dallas is any indication, Texas should remain a red state: the Dallas County Democrats have just a single party while the Dallas County Republicans have four.
In case you are an undecided voter (though, at this point, let's face it--you're probably more likely to be a non-voter if you haven't made up your mind by now), perhaps the food and Happy Hour details can help you make a decision.
The Dems will all meet up at Ozona Grill & Bar (4615 Greenville Ave.), which today features $1.50 domestic longnecks all day, along with $1 off drinks during happy hour (Sunday through Friday, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.) if your favorite candidate loses and you need something stiffer than beer. Ordinarily Tuesday night would also include the chance to see Section 8 Comedy Troupe's improv routine beginning at 9 p.m., but according to the Sec8 Web site, the guys are taking a break until April. But the idea of an admitted felon earning the Dems nod to run for state representative should provide plenty of laughs anyway.
The GOP, on the other hand, has four separate watching parties, each in support of a different candidate. Governor Rick Perry's supporters will gather at Sammy's BBQ (2126 Leonard St.). The prospect of free finger foods might just be enough to sway some undecideds, though the beer will cost ya. Kay Bailey Hutchison supporters will meet at Eddie Deen's Ranch (944 S. Lamar St.) in a private, RSVP-required catered event with live music. Supporters of teabagger/pastor and U.S. Congress hopeful Stephen Broden will chow down at Smokey John's BBQ (1820 W. Mockingbird Lane location). The food will be served buffet style, with cake and punch--but no booze. And, just in case you might get so excited by the returns that you'll need a room, Texas State Representative Stefani Carter's supporters will meet at Crowne Plaza Suites (7800 Alpha Road).
If only choosing a candidate were as easy as choosing where to eat and drink afterward.
