Leading up to September's Best of Dallas® 2016 issue, we're sharing (in no particular order) our 100 Favorite Dishes, the Dallas entrées, appetizers and desserts that really stuck with us this year.
God damn, it's hot out there, and it's only June, which means we've got many sweaty miles ahead. There's nothing more important during a Texas summer than having an arsenal of light dishes as the heatwaves waft off the asphalt.
Bolsa's smoked trout and avocado salad fits that bill, with buttery, smoky trout, crisp watermelon radish, fennel, lemon and herbs. It's an excellent meal-starter but for those who have overdone it lately — which, let's face it, isn't hard in this city — it makes for a nice light meal, too. It made me want to buy a smoker and plant an herb garden — but it's probably easier just to pop by Bolsa.
Keep the Dallas Observer Free... Since we started the Dallas Observer, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Dallas, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Dallas with no paywalls.
