The other day we got a fresh batch of summer interns here at the Observer, and since I'm the resident food sherpa, they wisely approached me for lunch guidance. I advised that they should not take a lunch, but that the should work harder, longer and with intense passion so that they may one day earn the right to a real job. They stared at me silently.
"Off-Site Kitchen," I broke down and said, after I'd had all the awkward silence I could handle. I pointed out that it was close by and that the restaurant was cost effective, and that for some time the staff here had visited so often it might be considered the paper's official cafeteria.
The burgers are sublime, whether you order yours with restraint, or you do it "Murph style," which borders on such recklessness it should be only carried out on rare occasion. Bacon is not enough; let's make it bacon relish, along with melting cheese and a runny fried egg. Either way the patties are juicy, just greasy enough and better than any other fast burger option in town.
I was about to tell them about the sloppy taco, but I'd already lost them. For whatever reason they decided to go somewhere within walking distance. A bunch of zombie interns that don't even follow the advice that they've asked for? And they wonder why they don't get paid.
