As a countdown to the Dallas Observer's "Best of Dallas" 2010, City of Ate is serving up 100 of the favorite dishes we crave, savor and hope to scarf down again soon. These dishes are in no particular order. Some are little known, others celebrated. Some are pricey, others can be eaten on the cheap, but all are delicious to the extreme. No. 41: Sausage Pizza At Oak Cliff Pizza
One of the best meal deals in town is Oak Cliff Pizza's meal deal, where you get two one-topping slices, a house or Caesar salad and a can of soda for $5. Don't tell them, but we'd pay a lot more for this excellent New York-style pie with a perfectly floppy, chewy crust, sweet and garlicky housemade sauce and top-notch fresh toppings. Though we're usually partial to pepperoni, at OCP we go with Italian sausage, as the place serves Jimmy's snappy, not-too-fennelly, not-too-spicy sausage, and it's sliced rather than crumbled. Extra toppings are just 35 cents apiece per slice, and totally worth it -- especially the roasted red pepper.
