Beer, Vietnamese, a Goodbye to Alma and Lots o' Tacos: This Week in the Dallas Food Scene

What a week. I drink too much beer and ate too many spring rolls during my review of My Lan in Garland, and I ended up with some great beer pairings from Matt Quenette over at the meddlesome Moth.

Elsewhere in the City of Ate we hated on candy corn and laid out our favorite burgers.

Justin Bitner ate a Reuben at Coppell Deli and walked away satisfied. And Lauren Daniels continued harassing the city's most interesting chefs. She cornered Brady Williams from Oddfellows this week, making me hungry for some mac and cheese.

Alma closed and the world stood still. Leslie Brenner wrote a sad and heartfelt goodbye to the upscale Mexican eatery on her Eats Blog. Then she laid the smack-down on NHS, yanking two of its four stars.

SideDish dished on the departure of Sharon Hage from the Outstanding in the Field dinner program; Jon Bonnell is stepping in to fill the gap. And Nancy Nichols roasted David Anthony Temple and his underground dining concept, after devoting significant bloggage to some serious Lucia food porn. That porchetta looks ridiculous.

At Crave, Steven Doyle captured some shots from the 828 pop up bar on Crave DFW. His Tacobots also visited Avilla's and had nice things to say.

Remember Jennie Kelly? We interviewed her as she wrapped up her time with MasterChef. She wrapped a year of blogging with some hot food photography on PefectLastBite. I wonder if I can get her to make me some duck ragu and homemade fettuccine.

The BBQ Snob kicked out another review at Full Custom Gospel BBQ. Wiley's nabbed three stars. He also ate an insane amount of food at the State Fair.

And over on the Taco Trail, José Ralat Maldonado BURNED the Velvet Taco. His scathing comments set off a twitter stream of taco negativity. Mark Brezinski fired back, and Maldonado responded. Maybe the two can make up over some secret chicken?
