A leading chronicler of culinary trends has singled out Burguesa Burgers' milkshake presentation as a leading example of one of the nation's top 10 dessert trends.

According to The Food Channel, the Dallas-based chain helped excite diners' suddenly insatiable desire for reconfigured sweets by ringing its milkshakes' straws with mini doughnuts. The report describes the State Fair-inspired "transformer" trend as using "common, everyday foods...in a new way."

Other examples of dessert transformation include Burger King's Funnel Cake Sticks and Belgian waffles layered with ice cream.

Burguesa, which just opened its newest location in Oak Cliff, apparently isn't the only area restaurant at the forefront of the sugar scene: The Food Channel also lists mini-desserts, macaroons and freshly baked cakes as must-have desserts in 2010. But the report gives Dallas slightly too much credit for dessert innovation, mistakenly citing it as the location of Santa Fe's famed Coyote Café and its trendy lemongrass ice cream.
