Finlandia Vodka, Slow Food USA and The Fairmont Pair Hooch and Food

The Fairmont Dallas hotel, home of Pyramind Restaurant & Bar, continues its support of local foods with the Friday, July 16, Cooking with Finlandia dinner. The event is a partnership between Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, Finlandia Vodka and Slow Food USA. As a matter of fact, 100 percent of ticket sales will be donated to Slow Food USA for their efforts in promoting sustainable food practices. Tickets costs $50. For the event, Finnish-American chef Sara La Fountain will be cooking dishes with Finlandia Vodka as an ingredient. Each dish will be paired with cocktails by Pekka Pellinen, Finlandia's brand champion mixologist.

La Fountain, a celebrity chef in her country, has her hands in a plethora of pots. Not only is she a proponent of local and sustainable cuisine, she owns a catering company, has had cooking shows on MTV3, published a cookbook, authored numerous magazine articles and is designing patterns for Jalas, a Nordic footwear manufacturer.

"The dinner hopes to promote Slow Food and sustainability as a whole," says David Page, public relations manager for Finlandia Vodka. "Chef Sara believes in using natural and locally grown products. She ties in well with Finlandia because we pride ourselves on the naturally pure ingredients that make Finlandia." This year is also the 40th anniversary of Finlandia. "To mark this special occasion, we launched a global charitable program to benefit organizations like Slow Food. The Cooking with Finlandia program has been in Europe for a couple of years, so we wanted to bring Chef Sara to the U.S. to share her talents."

The partnership between the organizations makes perfect sense. Andre Natera, the executive chef at Pyramid, is a locavore booster, sourcing many ingredients from local purveyors as well as from the hotel's terrace garden.
