Come see the two heavyweights battle it out before a crowd of lightweights. For $40, you can participate in five tasting rounds, each of which features a different cheese, wine and beer. They're all true, but for brevity's sake let us focus on the beer. The beers will be released slowly throughout the day, so as to not overwhelm patrons accustomed to 89s or below. The highfalutin brews include Prairie Artisan Barrel Aged Pirate Bomb, Epic Big Bad Baptist, Alpine beer/New Belgium Super IPA, New Belgium La Folie, Founders CBS, Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin and Clown Shoes Very Angry Beast.

Shit's about to get real home-spun up in here. The Prairie Dogs aka Lone Star Dutch Oven Society aka The Badass Laura Ingalls will hold a dutch oven cooking demonstration at Log Cabin Village in Fort Worth. The cost is covered with admission to the Village, which means you get all the up-close, cast iron, dutch oven observation you can handle for about $5. If that doesn't just butter your biscuits I don't know what will.

Attention, recipe fans: the Oak Lawn library has a recipe swap on the second Saturday of every month. An event like this may be foreign to all you whippersnappers out there, what with your NPR and your digital watches, but swap meets used to happen all the time before Pinterest reared its chevron-patterned head. The meet will involve a bit more preparation on your part than an afternoon of online recipe browsing, but you will also get to interact with real, live human beings and eat real, hopefully-dead food. Bring several copies of a recipe and a sample tray for your fellow swappers.

Finally, an answer to the age-old question: what do championships taste like? Taste of the Championship is an event which combines two of Americans' favorite things, football and food. 18 chefs from around the country (including ten from North Texas) will prepare food fit for a champion, and for $300 a person you, my dear reader, can be one. Local chefs include Richard Chamberlain (Chamberlain's Steak & Chop House), Omar Flores (Casa Rubia), Scott Gottlich (Bijoux), David Holben (Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse), TJ Lengnick (Shinsei) and Jim Severson (Sevy's.) Proceeds from the tasting benefit the College Football Playoff Foundation and the North Texas Food Bank.
