It's in honor of the date, of course. But yes, there's a catch. With free frozen drinks, there's always a catch.
7-Eleven actually sold more Slurpees last July 11 then on any other day last year. Sales jumped an 38 percent, in fact. Apparently the free tiny ones are just enough to tease you. And once you get going, it's hard to stop.
Which brings up brain freeze. According to Slurpee.com, the technical term for this splitting headache is Sphenopalatine Ganglioneuralgia. (Sounds like: Sven Opala Tyin Gangly On Your Algea.) Slurpee Facts also confirms that pressing your tongue against the roof of your mouth is, in fact, a known cure for brain freezes. Or for when Sven Opala is tying gangly on your algae. It happens.
Be forewarned -- each 7-Eleven store has a limited number of the free 7.11 ounce birthday cups, so go get'em tigers. But before you duck out of the cube, be sure to download your 7-Eleven Day tiny party hat.
