Support the independent voice of Dallas and help keep the future of Dallas Observer free.
Planning on channel surfing and slurping leftover spaghetti in your pajamas tonight? Yeah, that sounds like a lame idea, especially when the popular film site GordonandtheWhale.com is teaming up with Molly Maguire's (5815 Live Oak St.) to present dinner and a movie tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Lakewood pub. For $25, you'll enjoy a three-course meal and a special screening of Martin Scorsese's 2006 Irish mob drama, The Departed. It's an appropriate choice considering you'll be watching the film while eating corned beef and cabbage in a whiskey-stained mahogany booth older than the bartender's ancestors. Don't worry if you loath cabbage; you get your choice of appetizer, entrée and dessert from the regular dinner menu. The meal also include cranberry juice, a nod to Leonardo DiCaprio's juice-swiggin' character in the film, so you'll have to pay extra for that scotch on the rocks. Too many of those and you may turn into that asshole who answers his phone during movies. Visit Eventbrite.com to purchase tickets.
Keep the Dallas Observer Free... Since we started the Dallas Observer, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Dallas, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Dallas with no paywalls.
