Bars are battening down the hatches. Uber drivers are gassing up. Drinkers are getting primed. The Kentucky Derby, once again, is on Cinco de Mayo — a Saturday, no less. It's almost like the universe needed to see a shit show, and this was its way to bring it to fruition.
That said, bars across DFW (and probably the country) are giving their juleps — the traditional Derby Day cocktail made with just whiskey, simple syrup, mint and water — a bit of a festive twist. The most intriguing we've heard about so far is the Fresa Patrón julep at Jalisco Norte, made with strawberry- and pepper-infused tequila with a jammy French liqueur. Just different enough to pique our interest, just familiar enough to celebrate the best two minutes in sports.
