Lakewood Brewing Co.'s Raspberry Temptress has been all talk -- at least for me so far. But a recent announcement named a handful of bars to which the popular local brewery would be releasing a Milk Stout infused with raspberry puree. I set off to finally get a taste.
I picked Blind Butcher from the list and headed over. I even combed my hair. But the bartender that took my order said that while they would definitely get the beer at some point, they didn't have her yet. The Libertine Bar was also on the list and just up the street so I called them only to hear the same thing. The Temptress was a being a tease that night so I gave up and drank some lousy trash from a can.
What's worse than the scarcity is the demand. Matt Tobin, one of the beaded guys behind Blind Butcher and Goodfriend, told me he's not tapping the keg he bought for the Butcher until Valentine's Day for some reason I don't understand. He said he wants it to be special.
He tapped the keg he ordered for Goodfriend, though, the second it arrived. He flaunted it on Facebook and then half the neighborhood took their turns with it. That keg was half spent before the night was over, according to Tobin. So while the bars in my list may have the Raspberry Temptress at some point, they'll likely run out of it fast.
Bottom line: The following makes a decent target list if you want to try and meet the Raspberry Temptress. You should call ahead and confirm at your desired bar, though, if you don't want to get stood up like I did. I've talked to several bars and struck out a few for you that aren't going to get the beer, or are already out. But for myself? I'm over the lady. She's too much maintenance.
Goodfriend -- Tapped but gone soon Blind Butcher
