On a rainy Saturday, what could be better than sitting down with a freshly baked empanada filled with cheese, honey and figs? This past Saturday I found out. The answer is nothing. Nothing is better than that. I added pajama pants and a mug of hot chocolate, both of which are optional, but highly recommended.

The aforementioned empanada is only one of over a dozen new items created by Society Bakery's owner Roshi Muns. Just when we thought Society was all cupcakes and whoopie pies (Muns is a self-described "Whoopie Pie Innovator"), here comes a slew of sweet and savory-filled empanadas plus a series of "reimagined" panna cottas with flavors like marshmallow cream with pumpkin mousse, buttermilk cream with pomegranate gelee, and the one my mouth would most like to befriend: coconut milk panna cotta with chocolate. Yes to that.

According to Muns, she's still tinkering a bit with each of the recipes, but they'll be perfected just in time for their big debut this Friday. She also recommends warming the empanadas to melt the cheese just before serving eating them all yourself.
